We replaced a motherboard with a UEFI Bios. No problem since it was the exact same board right? No such luck. The computer would boot, but say that the disk was not ready to boot, to insert bootable media, and press any key.
The fix? Run windows 8 Developer install disk. (64bit in our case. Download straight from Microsoft.com) Then choose repair, then click go to Windows 7. Just like that, it restarted and went into Windows 7, where it would not boot before.
Normally, we would use the Windows 7 disk, and try the repair, but it kept giving the error that we was using the wrong version of Windows (we were not!). When we chose to try to install Windows 7 again, it said that the hdd (a ssd, btw) was not formatted for Windows! What?! It was using a EFI, or ESP.
So, use the Windows 8 disk to repair a Windows 7 installation with the advanced UEFI bios.

Great Green Bean Side dish
I have not really put any much about food on here, that is about to change. As much as I eat, I should record some food items. This is about some green beans we made tonight with our Lasagna. I found the recipe on the best web site for recipes. That is of course www.allrecipes.com. These green beans are most excellent!
Ingredients
- 2 slices bacon, diced
- 1/2 white onion, minced
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Cook the bacon in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat until crisp, about 10 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate; return the skillet with the reserved bacon grease to the stove.
- Cook the onion in the bacon drippings until soft, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the green beans and red pepper flakes; cook another 2 minutes. Pour the boiling water into the skillet and cover the skillet immediately; steam for about 15 minutes, shaking the skillet occasionally to keep the beans from sticking to the bottom. Add the butter, lemon juice, salt, and pepper; cook and stir until the butter is melted, 3 to 5 minutes. Sprinkle the cooked bacon over the beans to serve.
The Shed Door and Ramp
Our shed’s doors had rotted most of the way through, and the hardware was falling off. So, Sara and I purchased some wood, and went rebuilt the doors, and added a nice ramp. We plan to paint the doors in a few weeks, and let the ramp weather.

Garden 2011, Week Five
I haven’t been keeping up on the photos of the garden this year. Not that anyone will notice. It is now week 5, and I just put fertilizer on for the first time. I have lost a pumpkin plant, and may replace it. Otherwise, everything is growing as it should, and the weeds are being kept down by the straw. I should go in the rows of corn and weed, but it is hard to do without tearing up the corn. Grass is making it through the straw, but it has been rather easy to pull, root and all. I have harvested a couple of peppers so far, but they were not the kind I was expecting (or even thought I bought). But, that’s no big deal. All in all, its pretty good!
Biggest Spider I have ever seen (at my house)
- This is a full size BBQ Grill
If we take the cover off of the grill, and lay it on the ground, there are always a couple of spiders that want to make it a home. This particular evening, the largest wolf spider that I had ever seen around my house was clinging to the cover.
New Gutters
Our old gutters were rusting through, and the paint had peeled, and rust was everywhere. So, instead of scraping and painting (again), we decided to go ahead and replace them. I did the back side of the house first, and then went on to the front. Here are some photos:

Chimney Flashing Repair Job
So, the flashing around my chimney was allowing water in. It was time to replace the flashing, instead of just adding tar again. This was a long job, so I dedicated an entire page to it.
Check it out, here!
Garden 2011; Week 2.5
So, I have been busy fixing the roof and gutters, and playing in the garden. I’m not sure the straw is going to work the way that I had hoped. I can see grass growing up through the straw. So, I took my extra straw that I had bought, and put it all on the garden. I now have 6 bales of straw strung throughout the garden. Hopefully, it is deep enough to work now. I don’t plan on getting any more. The little weeds in the corn have gotten big enough, so I went ahead and ran my hoe through the rows, hopefully destroying the little weeds in the process.

First Day in the Pool 2011
We opened the pool last week, and have been trying to get it ready for Memorial Day Weekend. Well, the temperature outside is around 84, and so the kids were ready to jump in! The water temperature is around 70 degrees, so, very cold, but Brooke and Austin did not care! Brooke had blue lips and even blue eyes!
